FAQ
appsfire, How does it work?
appsfire allows you to share with your friends your lists of favorite iPhone Apps. All you have to do is download and install appsfire app on your Mac or PC, let is scan your Apps on iTunes. Then it will point you to your private appsfire page where you can decide which app you will share and actually share them the way you decide (email, social networks or widget). Once you have registered your apps once, you may also start using the dedicated appsfire iPhone app
What is an App?
An App is the abbreviation for Application. I hope you don't need us to tell you what is an application :) but in case you need to know, Applications are downloadable from the iTunes AppStore.

We are not referring to WebApps accessible from your Safari Browser on the iPhone.
Does appsfire works with all iPhones?
Yes, and with iPod Touch too!
Does appsfire work with iPad?
  • Yes, you can import your iPad apps in AppsFire using the Sync Client.
  • However the order of the apps may not be same. We are working on this right now. We are also adding a full iPad on the site, So you can view your iPad apps, in an iPad
Does appsfire works with Mac, PC and Linux? what about the iPhone app?
Three parts to this answer:
1. If you want to Share your Apps: you first need to backup your iPhone with iTunes desktop application, which, as far as we know only exists for Mac OS X and Windows, but not Linux. appsfire has a sync companion app for Mac OS 10.5 and Windows, available for download here.
2. If you want to receive Apps recommendations : this work on all platforms that support the iTunes application (Mac and PC as far as we know).
3. The appsfire iPhone app is available on the App Store. It works right away for application discovery. If you want to share your own apps directly from your iPhone, then make sure to synchronize with the appsfire sync companion (see answer 1 above).
How about my privacy?
Unless you decide to post all your applications publicly, all your data is private. You control what is shared; and until it is shared it remains 100% private. At any time you can delete your profile on appsfire. We do not transfer, or sell or exchange your data with third parties. No tricks. Too be totally like clear, like many popular web services and social networks, we may however make commercial use of the non nominative, aggregate data; i.e. general statistical analysis, etc...

Please check our privacy policy for more details.
Does appsfire work with Jailbroken iPhone?
No. At least not for now.
Does appsfire automatically share my iPhone apps publicly?
No. You are in control of what is shared or not. The selection is explicit, and anonymous. You may then share that selection as you wish. The selection itself is just a link.
How do I install an app recommended by someone?
Just click on any app recommended by your friend. This will lead you to the AppStore of Apple where you can install the application as usual. The links work on an iPhone directly (it opens the AppStore application, preset on the right app page), or on the desktop Mac or PC (the browser will open iTunes on the corresponding app page).
All my apps are not showing on my private page. Why?
The first time you install appsfire, you need to give it a few seconds to list and populate all your apps in your private page. If you own an iPhone in jailbreak mode, we can't list your applications. If your apps are still not showing up, refresh your page in a few seconds.

OS 3.0 introduces a new feature that allows to encrypt your backup; this option shows on the iPhone/iPodTouch page in iTunes. This feature may prevent appsfire to show all of your apps - consider turning encryption off if that is the case. As a work-around compromise, you may want to turn it off temporarily, trigger the synchronization, and turn it on again.
Will you spam me or my friends?
No. no spam here. never.
Is appsfire legal?
Yes. We only allow users to share their list of applications. The apps have to be installed according to Apple rules Will appsfire mess my iTunes/iPhone?
No. we are just helping you share your favorite apps with your friends. This does not impact whatsoever your iTunes or iPhone.
Who are the guys behind appsfire?
appsfire has been created by Yann Lechelle (twitter: @ylechelle) and Ouriel Ohayon (twitter: @ourielohayon). We have a public track record which can be accessed here and as you will guess we are neither hackers nor spammers. We just like to create super useful services people love to use.
How do I delete my data?
There is an "unregister" link at the bottom of your personal page. This link will let you delete all or some of your data.
Is appsfire free?
Yes. Of course if you decide to download a paid App mentioned in appsfire you will have to buy it on iTunes as usual.
What is in it for appsfire?
appsfired is and plans to remain a free service. However, like many publishers we hope to make our life through affiliate commissions of applications you may buy on the iTunes Store. In the near future we also plan to associate our users so they can also generate some revenues out of their recommendations. For now the service is totally ad free. In the future without being intrusive, we may introduce some relevant ad formats.
Anything else coming up soon?
Yes. So much. but we keep the surprise for later :)
Known limitations and bugs
  • does not work with Encrypted iPhone OS 3.0 backups (workaround: disable encryption once to sync the apps)
  • problem with SSL certificate on https:// but being fixed soon (workaround: use http:// instead)
  • does NOT list apps that have NOT been purchased on the App Store (i.e. Cydia installs)
  • certain apps may not appear right away: refresh the step 1 page after a minute
  • certain apps may not appear at all (certain cases of apps not registered internationally)
  • the system only syncs ONE device, the last one with which you did a backup (workaround: for each device, after a full iTunes backup, force a re-scan of all apps, and then immediately make a bookmark for that device)
