VCalc is an RPN vector calculator for the iPhone/iPod designed to help in performing various vector intensive computations on a portable device. VCalc was created out of a need to perform vector calcuations like those required in intro physics courses, such as that particularly emphasized in the great “Matter and Interactions” curriculum developed by Ruth Chabay and Bruce Sherwood. You can learn more about Matter and Interactions at: http://matterandinteractions.org/ While VCalc is pretty ugly right now, and has fairly limited functionality, I still find it useful for 90% of my phone calculator needs. ;-) Be assured that I’ll be adding features and improving its appearance as time goes on. To use VCalc simply enter scalers (with no commas) or vectors (with components separated by commas) by clicking on the number & comma keys on the keypad. When you’re finished entering a number/vector, click “Enter”. That puts the number on the “stack”. Once on the stack a number/vector can be a part of an operation. Most operations act on each component of a vector (e.g., x^2 squares each component of a vector) but there are some special operations like “dot product” (y dot x) and “cross product” (y cross x) in which the two topmost vectors on the stack are involved. In general if two vectors are operated on by a binary opertor (e.g., “+”,”-” etc.) each component of the second vector on the stack (called “y”) is the left operand with each component of the top vector (called “x”) acting as the right operand. The resulting vector is left on the stack. For this reason vectors that are operated on need to have the same number of components as the other operand in the binary operation. One special case is scaler operation (e.g., scaler multiplication) in which one of the vectors has only one component. Details of the cars featured: The E36 BMW was third iteration of the three series launched in 1990 as a successor to the E30. Made in both Munich, Germany and Cairo, Egypt, this model was produced for almost 10 years before being replaced by the E46. The range started at the 316i with the four-cylinder 1600 developing 99 hp right the way up to the M3 powered by the impressive 3.2 liter straight six with VANOS variable valve timing developing 317 hp. 1.7 liter and 2.5 liter turbo diesels were also offered. The car was available in almost every form, saloon, coupe, convertible, touring (estate ), and compact. The 318ti was manufactured for the US market. Following the E36 was the E46, this car was incredibly successful with over half a million units sold worldwide in 2002. The M3 had a revised, larger and more powerful engine and was released in 2001 in coupe and convertible only. This car developed 343 bhp. A lightweight version, the CSL was available as a limited edition run of 1400 cars in 2004. This was only released in Europe. The CSL was 110 kg lighter than the M3 due to Formula One technology and the removal of various luxuries. The roof was constructed from carbon fiber reinforced plastic to lower the center of gravity of the car. The engine was modified with a carbon fiber air intake, revised camshaft timing, a lightweight exhaust manifold, and thinner exhaust pipe work. After being incredibly successful the E46 was replaced by the E 90 in 2005. The E34 BMW was a classically styled car. This car replaced the E28 and used the M20, M30, M50 and S38 in-line six cylinder engines and the M60 V8. This gave buyers an infinite choice of models such as the 518i, 520i, 525i, 530i, 535i, and the 540i. Turbo diesels were also sold in the form of the 524td and the 525tds. At the top of the range an M5 also followed with a 3.8 liter 24 valve straight six developing 335 hp. A four-wheel drive version was also produced known as the 525iX. Meet the gorgeous sound of chrome-pressing-against-nickel: here, in all its sweaty glory, is the very first steel ever made for your iPhone and iPod Touch: Steel Guitar. We call it "Steel Guitar" advisedly: it's comprised of the four instruments that defined a good deal of Rock, Blues and Country. In it, you can select among the Lap Steel, Eight-String Console or either of the traditional Nashville or Texas setups. You can use it as a plain slide guitar (turn on the six-string "Lap" mode, and turn off the accelerometer), or use the full ten-string monster along with configurable "pedals" (actually, the axes of the accelerometer). Slide, pick, dip device to bend. Wire up the volume pedal and swell. Have fun. Slide along with Webb Pierce, Elmo' James or Allman Bro's...you pick the style, we provide the sound. To boot, we opine that it's far easier to play than any other app-guitars out there. You be the judge. Here are a few tips. By default, we set it to launch on the Nashville setting, so don't be daunted seeing ten strings on the screen. Also by default, we kept the accelerometer active: so hold your phone flat to hear the tuning: dip it away from you, towards or to the left or right to activate various "pedals" to bend certain strings. You can go straight to the "Accel" menu under settings to eye the hook-up, modify it or turn it off. It's up to you. To play your first I-IV lick, hit strings 3-4-5 (numbered from the thinnest string) on open and give a quick flick to the phone to the right and facing towards you. Volume pedal is not active in the launch-default setting, to prevent confusion. If you cannot hear a sound in certain tunings or instruments, make sure that the phone isn't dipped to the left (with the pickup on your right), as that's where we wired all volume swells by default.
