The Education Handbook

image app

---- YOU CAN FIND THE INFORMATION CONTAINED IN THIS APPLICATION VIA THE NET AT WIKIPEDIA.COM---- The Handbook of education education in its broadest sense is any act or experience that has a formative effect on the mind, character or physical ability of an individual. In its technical sense education is the process by which society deliberately transmits its accumulated knowledge, skills and values from one generation to another. Teachers in educational institutions direct the education of students and might draw on many subjects, including reading, writing, mathematics, science and history. This process is sometimes called schooling when referring to the education of teaching only a certain subject, usually as professors at institutions of higher learning. There is also education in fields for those who want specific vocational skills, such as those required to be a pilot. In addition there is an array of education possible at the informal level, such as, in museums and libraries, with the Internet and in life experience.

In an effort to enrich and modernize education, the United States government has invested billions of dollars to provide schools with modern technical equipment. For these investments to pay off, future teachers must be able to use these learning tools to improve education. With a three-year Catalyst grant from the Preparing Tomorrow's Teachers to Use Technology (PT3) program, Technology Based Learning and Research (TBLR) is creating an online Digital Video Library (DVL), targeting teacher candidates and methods professors. This digital library will be based on the National education Technology Standards (NETS) developed by the International Society for Technology in education (ISTE) and will contain footage of teachers modeling lesson activities that incorporate the NETS. The content of the DVL will also integrate discussion from experts, resources for technology integration and listings of NETS for Teachers and Students. The NETS Digital Video Library was developed to provide video samples of real teachers implementing the National educational Technology Standards. The complete library includes video segments related to both Student NETS and Teacher NETS. The video segments, along with related lesson plans and other artifacts, provide rich fodder for individual or group reflection and critique in the course of preservice and inservice professional development. The DVL will provide on-demand support for educators, helping them to introduce preservice teachers to a wide range of technological tools and resources. Through this project TBLR hopes to impact the national educational system by providing an online digital video collection of exemplary technology-using teachers and teacher education faculty effectively integrating technology. The online collection of digital models provides preservice teachers and teacher education faculty with specific strategies on how to organize and manage technology-based learning environments. This DVL lesson is taught by Pam Nicholson, a 7th grade science teacher from S.J. Welsh Middle School in Lake Charles, Louisiana. The lesson activity Bird Rap: A Guide to Local Birds is an inquiry-based lesson, which introduces 7th grade students to Louisiana songbirds. Constructed science centers in the classroom allow the students to focus inquiry on specific elements of ornithology, including bird calls, migration patterns, eating habits, and nest construction. The class takes a field trip to a local park to gather data with hand-held PCs, digital and video cameras, and binoculars. Students model cooperative learning and each group creates an online field guide to local birds.

Teacher Benefits: • sparks discussion and lets children reflect on their learning process • brings words and concepts to the classroom • aids in expository writing exercises • activates student prior knowledge • reveals misconceptions about science • checks for mastery of science concepts Using Photography To Build Vocabulary: Research on language and vocabulary development has shown that children who have more experiences have better vocabulary development, and thus are better prepared to learn to read and comprehend what they read. Designed for 3 Learning Styles • Visual learners easily remember visual details and prefer to see what they are learning. • Auditory learners like to have things explained orally. • Tactile learners like to touch things in order to learn about them.

Science of Right

The science of Right by Immanual Kant translated by W. Hastie The science of Right has for its object the principles of all the laws which it is possible to promulgate by external legislation. Where there is such a legislation, it becomes, in actual application to it, a system of positive right and law; and he who is versed in the knowledge of this system is called a jurist or jurisconsult (jurisconsultus). About the Author: "Immanuel Kant (22 April 1724 - 12 February 1804) was an 18th-century German philosopher from the Prussian city of Konigsberg (now Kaliningrad, Russia). He is regarded as one of the most influential thinkers of modern Europe and of the late Enlightenment. Immanuel Kant was born in 1724 in Konigsberg, as the fourth of nine children (five of them reached adulthood). He was baptized as 'Emanuel' but later changed his name to 'Immanuel' after he learned Hebrew. He spent his entire life in and around his hometown, the capital of East Prussia at that time, never traveling more than a hundred miles from Konigsberg. His father Johann Georg Kant (1682-1746) was a German craftsman from Memel, at the time Prussia's most northeastern city (now Klaipeda, Lithuania). His mother Anna Regina Porter (1697-1737), born in Nuremberg, was the daughter of a Scottish saddle/harness maker. In his youth, Kant was a solid, albeit unspectacular, student. He was raised in a Pietist household that stressed intense religious devotion, personal humility, and a literal interpretation of the Bible. Consequently, Kant received a stern education - strict, punitive, and disciplinary - that favored Latin and religious instruction over mathematics and science."

Essays on Education and Kindred…

image app

Herbert Spencer was an English philosopher, prominent classical liberal political theorist, and sociological theorist of the Victorian era. The four essays on education which Herbert Spencer published in a single volume in 1861 were all written and separately published between 1854 and 1859. Their tone was aggressive and their proposals revolutionary; although all the doctrines - with one important exception - had already been vigorously preached by earlier writers on education, as Spencer himself was at pains to point out. The doctrine which was comparatively new ran through all four essays; but was most amply stated in the essay first published in 1859 under the title "What Knowledge is of Most Worth?" In this essay Spencer divided the leading kinds of human activity into those which minister to self-preservation, those which secure the necessaries of life, those whose end is the care of offspring, those which make good citizens, and those which prepare adults to enjoy nature, literature, and the fine arts; and he then maintained that in each of these several classes, knowledge of science was worth more than any other knowledge. He argued that everywhere throughout creation faculties are developed through the performance of the appropriate functions; so that it would be contrary to the whole harmony of nature "if one kind of culture were needed for the gaining of information, and another kind were needed as a mental gymnastic." He then maintained that the sciences are superior in all respects to languages as educational material; they train the memory better, and a superior kind of memory; they cultivate the judgment, and they impart an admirable moral and religious discipline. He concluded that "for discipline, as well as for guidance, science is of chiefest value. In all its effects, learning the meaning of things is better than learning the meaning of words." He answered the question "what knowledge is of most worth?" with the one word - science. In the present volume are also included three other famous essays written by him during the same period (1854-59) which produced the essays on education. All three are germane to the educational essays, because they deal with the general law of human progress, with the genesis of that science which Spencer thought to be the knowledge of most worth, and with the origin and function of music, a subject which he maintained should play an important part in any scheme of education.

Whether the British race is improving or degenerating? What, if it seem probably degenerating, are the causes of so great an evil? How they can be, if not destroyed, at least arrested?--These are questions worthy the attention, not of statesmen only and medical men, but of every father and mother in these isles. I shall say somewhat about them in this Essay; and say it in a form which ought to be intelligible to fathers and mothers of every class, from the highest to the lowest, in hopes of convincing some of them at least that the science of health, now so utterly neglected in our curriculum of so-called education, ought to be taught--the rudiments of it at least--in every school, college, and university. We talk of our hardy forefathers; and rightly. But they were hardy, just as the savage is usually hardy, because none but the hardy lived. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- The ZyngRule ebook reader is a modeless, full screen reader -- no toolbar to consume valuable screen real estate, or switching back and forth between full screen and toolbar screen modes. Science Of Right - by Immanual…
